Not a surprise that the National Weather Service has placed much - TopicsExpress

Not a surprise that the National Weather Service has placed much of southeast LA and coastal MS under a Flash Flood Watch until 7 pm this evening. With abundant Gulf moisture and development of convection south of the coast moving inland, heavy downpours can exacerbate the flooding concern in areas totally saturated from rainfall over the last several days. If these heavy storms remain stationary or begin to train over specific locations, flash flooding is possible. The issuance of warnings may be warranted if this situation develops. Weve already seen an Areal Flood Advisory issued for parts of Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, and St. Bernard...not for flash flooding, but for ponding of water and minor street flooding where 2+ inches of rainfall had already been observed. Models indicate heavy showers will remain possible through the afternoon and into the early evening. So the threat will remain for much of the day. - Chris Franklin
