Not everybody finds their identity day 1. The people closest to you probably think youre pretty cool. You havent taken a poop yet. They get you back with the baby pictures and so the training begins with the Lion King. Its the circle of life…Fast forward to grade 9. No longer a big fish in a small pond… Everybody has insecurities. You only know your own and thats why you may or may not feel alone. Identity is hard to find. Thats why its worth searching for. Life aint easy and thats why why we keep our options open. Our parents try to warn us when were teenagers that we dont know it all. What do they know? What do I know? Ive learned many hard lessons, most of which were young but the greatest advice I can give is to love being taken to school. It can brooze the ego but an ego is a weakness, especially if you show it...and life will weed that out for you for free if you close your mouth and open your ears and know youll make mistakes… Even Mario Lemieux makes mistakes but the team is built around putting the right people, in the appropriate risk for the greater good of the current challenge. Should somebody fumble, somebody has your back and forgiveness is a virtue… We search for identity, we wonder about self-concept and we dont always know if were right or wrong, cool or otherwise or dumb or smart or whatever…We consider weaknesses with way more ponder than our strengths and that is truly the greatest news. Now you know what to work on for the next 90 days… People you dont respect can hurt you because they may confirm an insecurity you have been feeling, or some weakness or shame. Its not them, its you. Dont show them up, but grow and the right people will enter your life as a fruit of your labor. Life is trial and error, some will win, some will lose but those who dont try will sing the blues. Life is about learning. Sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards. Depth width and support. A great soccer coach that taught me young gave me that important advice. You control your fate, and death is the reason to take risk
