Not five minutes ago I finished reading Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta for the second time. I read it for the first time in November 2012, and in the time between then and now I had forgotten why I love this book so much. I remember now. Its because I see myself and my family and my closest friends and my best and worst memories in every word on every page. Because Melina Marchetta is so damn amazing that she makes me question why I bother writing at all. Because it makes me want to write down all of my best memories, no matter how the in between events have tainted them, so that I will never forget that these people are my world for a reason. So I am going to do just that. I am going to open up a doc and write them all down. Thank God, too, because I was in need of some revelation before I start yet another version of a first draft of my book. And now I also remember why I bother writing even though I will never reach the brilliance of this book.
