Not long back from a 73 mile training run, my first ride out on - TopicsExpress

Not long back from a 73 mile training run, my first ride out on the bike since I turned 52 and do you know what? Theres life in the old dog yet! This was the longest Training ride of my LEJOG adventure to date and as I roll out and start a month today, I thought Id better get some serious miles in. Thanks to Janice for giving me another day off and to DG for covering I had a free day and set out just after 9am and took a route up through Templand, Beattock, Abington, Dalveen Pass, Thornhill, Dumfries, Torthorwald and home. Good weather, minimal wind, not too cold and legs working good, can a man on a bike ask for any more? Took some photos to highlight some of the scenery on route, the Dalveen pass is a cracker of a ride-through. I passed a cycling sign at Beattock en-route and I reckon it must have been there for about 35 years, its getting a bit dilapidated now and I cant even remember why it was put there in the first place, anybody any idea? Took the Garmin out today and didnt get lost so figured it must work! Thought the screen was hard to read particularly when wearing sun glasses but will persevere! Loved the Network Rail sign I saw so I took a picture - says it all really! Not a lot of wildlife on show today - one red squirrel and considering it was over 73 miles that was guff. Saw two dead deer and two dead badgers around the route and three jakeys in Dumfries but I wasnt sure if they qualified as wildlife, road kill or space cadets though :-) got another 70 planned for Saturday so plenty of miles going on the legs just now, I also intend tapering off training over next few weeks, who knows, might even get the gross cut then!! Delighted to see that the page now has 150 likes. Please keep sharing my page, plenty more stories to come from the road in the lead up to and during LEJOG. Sad to hear that the inspirational Stephen Sutton lost his battle today, just reinforces what a crap disease cancer is and helps focus the mind and body into trying to do something to raise funds for superb charities like Love Hope Strength who do such great work. RIP Stephen!
