Not many days pass that I dont have cause to reflect in some way - TopicsExpress

Not many days pass that I dont have cause to reflect in some way or other on Dr. King and his life and work. Today, I found myself drawn to Thou, Dear God: Prayers That Open Hearts and Spirits, a collection of prayers he either gave or wrote down after praying them by himself. Some of the prayers are hopeful, some are anguished, but all of them display the strength and perseverance of his faith, even when he struggled to keep that grounding beneath him. Over the years Ive studied his writing and his work, Ive found myself more and more drawn to this insistent theme of his, which he often spoke in speeches, sermons, and prayers: Help us to realize that man was created to shine like stars and live on through eternity. Our lives matter. What we do, what we say, how we interact, all matters in the web of mutality that we all live within. We cannot know what a smile or a kind word or a helping hand will do to alter someones day, to set them on a better course than they might otherwise have been on. We all depend on and need each other. We were created to shine. Let us do that.
