Not much new to report on Hope. Tests on her esophagus and airway for perforations were negative, but she is still aspirating fluid into her lungs and cant cough sufficiently to clear it for suctioning. Her breathing doesnt seem to be improving either, which isnt surprising given the fluid. Doctors are hoping that breathing treatments and percussion therapy will loosen the fluid enough to be able to suction it. If not, she runs the risk of pneumonia, which simply isnt an option in her already weakened condition. As scary as it sounds, we may have to opt for a tracheotomy, which would allow the fluid to be suctioned from her lungs manually, but would take away her ability to vocalize or breath through her mouth for quite a while. Not what we were hoping for, but soon there may be no other option. Please keep the thoughts and prayers coming...we need them now more than ever...
