Not one of us has all the right answers . . . If your views are so inflexible that you are unable to consider the views of others, then you are not necessarily right . . . just hard headed. Often, the best route to effect change is through the channels already in place . Assuming that wont work is often a bad assumption. More often, making that assumption rather than seeking assistance through the proper channels means you may be working with less than all the information necessary to properly assess the situation at hand. Yes, there are people in positions of leadership that can be a roadblock to progress. More often than not, most leaders DO want what is best for the areas over which they are tasked to oversee. Many times, what appears to be a roadblock actually stems from miscommunication, other pressing needs, and issues of which you may be unaware. If you want to affect change . . . figure out how to help leaders in charge SEE your vision. Dont just tell them and expect it to be so. Do the leg work to help them see the benefit of your viewpoint. On the flip side, truly listen to the leaders comments and thoughts as often they include an explanation of hurdles and limitations that may be affecting the leaders ability to affect change. When that happens, attempt to help find a way over those hurdles and ways to remove limitations and impediments. In the end, just because you dont get your way doesnt mean you have failed. Often, it just means you have to review your views to determine if they can be modified into something more workable or need to try again when the timing may be better.
