Not so much of a technical hack but more of me having to hack - TopicsExpress

Not so much of a technical hack but more of me having to hack myself mentally to think like the staff in a Doctors office. I got the runaround all day yesterday dealing with my health insurance, the Rx provider, Pharmacies and prescribing doctor. Essentially what threw a wrench into things was this Prior Authorization stuff. To make a long story brief it went like this: -1- My doctor was willing to fill out the Pre_Auth forms and fax it to the provider but would not call them to obtain the forms. -2- The provider refused to deal with me and wouldnt even send the necessary form via fax to my doctor -they claimed that either the doctors office or the pharmacy would have to call to obtain the PA form. -3- The pharmacy claims they cant do it and says its up to the doctor to call and get the form and send it to the provider. This went on most of yesterday. It got to the point where I was gearing up to do some serious social engineering today, and pretend to be someone in the doctors office who is fairly new and slightly inexperienced but tasked with obtaining the form for the doctor. A few of my unwanted calls from yesterday at least gave me a hint of information they would ask for like NPI# and DEA#.. and some other info that I had on the script, or that I observed while gleaning over the counter at other PA insurance forms on the receptionists desk. I did a little research this morning on physicians and PA, and found an article on medical-economics that advised physicians to check websites for on-line forms in order to save time waiting on hold or dealing with automated phone queue systems. So from that I decided to GOOGLE my Inusrance/Rx provider, and Prior Authorization Form Fax Yep, that simple.... and I had a publicly viewable .pdf fillable form-field document under the providers section of the site, with the phone number and fax of the provider who made it seem as though this form was uber top secret and that there was no way for me to get it to my doctor without them requesting it. Im just now waiting on the final result to see if this works... and Ill update. But Ill be damned that with all that I read and know that I failed to simply make that GOOGLE search yesterday. =S
