Not sure how I got sucked into this game...not true...I do. Seems I made the mistake of liking someones status when they posted theirs before I understood the consequences of doing such a thing. So...here goes: 1. Ive always had a below the radar personality. I shy away from the spotlight, and I have never sought to be the center of attention. I was the quiet kid that no one noticed. My high school biology teacher said it best...she once told me that if she didnt physically look up and see me there, she wouldnt have known I was present. 2. People who have known me since I was a kid call me by my middle name, which is Mead. For this reason, you can instantly know how long someone has known me based on the name they use...many have never gotten used to calling me Joe. 3. I began using my first name in college since that is how I was listed on the roster. I quickly tired of correcting the instructors whenever they called my name for attendance, which invariably led to a 5 minute discussion on the pronunciation of my middle name, with everyone in the class looking at me...see #1 to understand why this was bothersome. I eventually just embraced the use of my first name and have gone by it ever since. 4. I am a Communications major and started a business that requires me to interact with people constantly. I find that odd for someone with a self-stated personality that is below the radar. 5. I no longer fear public speaking, due to #6 and #7 which killed it entirely. I am praise Jesus cured! 6. I am an adjunct instructor at Belmont College where I teach a multimedia and an introduction to video editing class every Fall. Never wanted to be a teacher, yet have found that I kinda like it. 7. Earlier this year, I almost made it onto a reality TV series created by Vince Vaughn, Peter Billingsly (Ralphie from A Christmas Story, and Glenn Beck. The series had to do with finding the next great documentary filmmaker. Was invited to NYC where I was put on camera in front of 3 judges, one of them Billingsly, to pitch the documentary idea. Made it to the final 25 finalists out of 4000 applicants before being eliminated. 8. Wanted to play the drums when I was a kid, parents didnt want the noise....as a result, Im now trying to learn guitar...???...I have no idea. 9. I was a closet athlete in high school. Football was my game. Never played a down, except for in gym class. Despite scoring more touchdowns in the history of gym class than anyone and catching everything that was ever thrown at me, I was never selected higher than 4th when it came to choosing teams, and no coaches ever took notice. Apparently, I didnt pass the eye test due to #10. Does that sound bitter? 10. I was 54 and 120 lbs when I graduated high school. When a breeze kicked up, I had to grab hold of something. I came home from 1st year of college at 58 and 160lbs after discovering the weight room. 11. Im 50% Puerto Rican, yet have zero tolerance for the sun due to my Irish-German complexion. Im the guy that gets sun burned on a cloudy day. Visited the island with my mom years ago and was witnessed getting sun burned by a few Puerto Rican relatives. As a result, I have been banished from the island of Puerto Rico and shunned by my people. 12. Cats are my favorite pets. I like all pets, but cats have always held my fascination. Each has a unique personality, and I respect their independent nature. 13. I find it sad that many people cannot discuss issues that they disagree on without it devolving into shouting matches and name-calling. I find it sadder still that most people will avoid such discussions entirely due to that fact. Because we can no longer talk to one another and disagree respectfully is the reason our nation is in the state its in. 14. I firmly believe that no matter what situation you find yourself in, and whether youre happy, sad, or indifferent about it...you made 99% of the choices that put you there. Whew! There...its done!
