Not sure if you believe in this stuff, but bear with me. Tonight I started my third book in a row by a Japanese author. I didn’t know why I was on this sudden Japanese kick. Then this evening I learned a friend of mine in Japan had passed away on Dec. 9. We had met on Facebook. I was also Facebook friends with Bob Welch, formerly of Fleetwood Mac, but I’d never interacted with him. One day in June of 2012, on the way home from work, I suddenly felt the need to reach out to him -- like an imperative need. I thought I’d tell him I wanted to work his persona into a story, the way I did with my singer friend Walter Egan. Before I got home I stopped in a book store, looked Bob Welch up in a book on Fleetwood Mac and read about him a bit. Then I got home, opened Facebook, and in my timeline saw someone offering condolences to Walter Egan on the passing of his friend Bob Welch. I was like, WHAT? Sure enough, Bob Welch had committed suicide that day.
