Not that its my bone to pick, but I really cannot stand when people of color are referred to as African Americans by the news media (or anyone else for that matter) because the simple fact is that not all colored people come from Africa. A lot of Irish people are white, however we do not refer to all white people as Irish Americans because not all white people are Irish. Supposedly African American is the politically correct term for colored people, but I dont see anything correct about it, politically or otherwise. Furthermore, I dont understand why we refer to different races at all. I understand that its important to recognize our diverse backgrounds but we should not define people by the color of their skin or refer to someone as black or white. Nothing in this world is black or white and people are no exception. Institutionalized racism has always existed in this country, but until we stop doing things to further promote it, it will continue to exist and tear our nation apart.
