Not trying to incite debate just a thought this morning In our brand dominant first world countries, artists struggle to find identity without having to sell through such an entity that counts as a person legally while only being numbers. I took a look through a hallmark catalogue this morning only to find ornaments sold for min of twenty dollars primarily popular cartoons, movies, and brands. The few that conveyed messages of family and hope were artist crafted metal sculptures many of which being sold for less, why has a culture that strives on family values rather sell movies based upon wars during holidays rather than something handcrafted and meaningful with the integrity of said holiday? And why must the artists mass produce these objects to make such a little amount through such a large company? Tradtional art is dying, design is rising and if you want to live as an artist you seem to be having to demean your work, what its worth and let someone else own the rights to it...but you get a little credit in the small print so I guess its okay... I get asked what my issue with creating for a larger entity is, cause unless they push for an equal tomorrow youre only helping them feed to be on top while you stay struggling in a different class...
