Not wanting to start an argument at all, first let me say that i fish tournaments 2-3 times per month, whats your opinion on mortality rates AFTER fish are released at a tournament. The reason i asked is this, recently a large tournament organization held a tournament on a lake here in Ohio. I will not mention the organizations name, but i saw pictures from a guy who fished the lake the day after their tournament was held. Obviously the fish were ALIVE at weigh ins or they wouldnt have been weighed however the day after their weigh ins there was approximately 50 dead bass floating and washed up on the bank at the ramp where they released their fish. I know there is alot of fish in our lakes here in Ohio but how often does this go on ??? Like i said i fish tournaments and release my fish alive but it makes me wonder how many die 24-48 hours after they are released ?? Is it really fair to let these large clubs pay a small fee and deplete the fisheries so much with their 75 boat tournaments ?? Most of the guys in this club are NOT locals and probably never fish the lake any other time through out the year. I am wondering if i even want to fish tournaments any more after seeing the after effects on the lakes. Is this common after a tournament release or was it a rarity ?? I have saw some smaller clubs where guys release their fish by tossing them in the water and walking away with out any attempt to revive the fish, it kind of makes me sick to think of the damage that (I) as a tournament angler could be doing to the local lakes. THOUGHTS ????
