Note: Today, West Virginia, a state falling (like Virginia and the two Carolinas) in the 4th Federal Judicial Circuit and affected exactly like the two Carolinas by the Monday SCOTUS decision not to review the 4th.circuits and other circuits invalidation of gay marriage bans in individual states (Virginia in the 4th.), officially accepted the Monday SCOTUS decision as also applying to West Virginia and cleared away the last barriers to gay and lesbian couples being married in that state. Not so the two Carolinas. I am not a lawyer and not in any position to give advice to the South Carolina Supreme Court and this states Attorney General. But if I were, I would recommend that they look very closely at two parts of the U.S. Constitution: Art. 6, par. 2 the Supremacy Clause, and the 1st sec. of the 14th.
