Note: We did minimal leading out whilst Halloween was still a stallion... He was an angel in every way in his stable - no barging, dominance issues, nipping, extremely calm etc but once out of the stable... He grew a hand, had absolutely no ability to concentrate or focus on me or anything else for that matter, except for saying hello to all other horses, being extremely difficult to control if there was much going on on the yard. Advice: ranged from only lead when absolutely necessary and only let him loose in an enclosed space ie an indoor school until gelded, to only leading to and from field/schools and no walks. I opted for the 2nd option as I preferred him having turn out but no extra leading for safetys sake (and he was sedated 1ml sedalin the first few times in the field, just in case = prevention is better than cure re running around causing trouble to himself and others!) Of interest: on the continent it is generally only men who lead stallions. I was advised that they can turn in a day from being amenable to dangerous... I was very careful and took no risks! Hat at all times! Luckily he is chilled as anything a lot of the time as the photos show! Sleepy head!
