Note to Christians in regards to Yoga As most of my friends know I personally embraced eastern mysticism as a young lad. When I committed my life to Christ in April of 1995 I had already smashed my personal idols, destroyed all my fetishes and my personal astrology reading two months prior after hearing Isaiah 43-45, I simply did not want to offend God before I met Him. At this point I had been attending a small but vibrant Christian church for 4 months and reading my Bible vigorously. When I gave my life to Him, He would not allow any rivals of my worship and affection. Things that grieved Him began to grieve me. This experience causes great confusion when followers of Christ share with me that they are trying out yoga. Yoga is defined in my computer dictionary as “a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation.” Why would a follower of Christ who genuinely worships God want to share that worship with another? That question has led me into many uncomfortable conversations. Several months back Charisma Magazine published an article from a former instructor of yoga that I was very impressed with. I reached out to the author Mike Shreve personally and he shared a fuller copy of that article that is linked to this post. It covers the succinctly five summarized points that challenge Christians not to practice yoga. wholyfit/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/mikeShreve.pdf
