Note to self!!! One of the things I used to tell my girls….”Be.. aware.. of your surroundings!” GOOD ADVICE!!! I have definitely learned that the name of a store doesnt always mean what you think it means!! I have been looking for an item or two to use on my Grandson’s birthday cake but haven’t had any luck. I attended a workshop in Joplin yesterday and later in the afternoon, met up with Lowell, and we enjoyed a delightful dinner at Popeye’s! He suggested that we try the toy store across the street so, when we finished eating yummy, delicious Popeye’s chicken, we went across the street, (after getting some Andy’s ice cream, obviously!!) My mind was wandering aimlessly elsewhere as I walked up the ramp to the store paying zero attention to the large welcoming windows that are all across the front of the store. As I opened the door, I read a sign on the door that said, “No one under 18 years of age.” That seemed extremely odd….it’s a toy store…e on!! As I took two steps inside, I was met with a colorful array of very pretty…very skimpy…very….intimate…. lingerie. Again….my little feeble mind thought… that’s very odd...and then…..then reality hit like a million birds taking flight simultaneously as 2+2 finally came together to produce 4!! As this realization dawned like the break of day, I also became aware of two salespersons leaning on the desk watching me quietly. I felt that a quick exit was somewhat out of the question…especially since my feet had suddenly decided to become one with the floor. The lady said, “May we help you?” I smiled sweetly…still firmly rooted to this particular spot on the floor…and said, “Um…this isn’t exactly the kind of store I expected.” (Understatement of the year) She said, “What are you looking for?” Me in a quiet voice: “Well….toys.” The man: “Oh lady, we HAVE toys!” The saleslady didn’t change her position; she didn’t look at him….but with eyes glued to mine, she said, “I think….she means kids toys….” Me: “Yes, yes I do!” They were very nice and asked what I was looking for and gave me suggestions, after which I scurried quickly out the door! I repeat….BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS!! Lol
