Nothing gets me fired up more than reading a fitness publication proclaim CARDIO CAN MAKE YOU FAT Does anyone else hear this and think of how absurd it sounds? To me, its an excuse for people NOT to do something that is healthy, beneficial and necessary for long term health. Lets look at some elite endurance athletes...these folks do a ton of cardio, hours a day...how many of them are fat? ZERO. NONE. Because cardio does not make a person fat. It all comes down to nutrition (surprise!!!). If youre eating crap, trying to burn it off doing cardio....sorry, no luck. If youre living on rabbit food, doing hours of cardio youll lose muscle and hold onto fat, likely making you skinny fat (youre thin but your body composition is high in fat) Its true, the body adapts. So the more cardio you do, the more you have to do to get results. This is why bodybuilders (and others looking for fat loss) will keep cardio as little as possible so they can ramp up before a contest to lose the last bit of fat. Back to nutrition...if youre like me and enjoy doing cardio you get to eat more!!! You need to adjust your nutrition intake for your activity level. Obviously the more active you are the more your body will require in the way of nutrition. But the bottom line: cardio does NOT make you fat. Get educated about nutrition so you can make sure youre eating correctly for the activities you enjoy.
