Notoriously terrible amateur actor and heir to large sugar - TopicsExpress

Notoriously terrible amateur actor and heir to large sugar fortune. His career started when he hired out the Haymarket Theatre for one night so he could play Romeo. He came out wearing an extravagant costume of his own design; at some point during the performance, the pants split in half. Coates was convinced he was the best actor in the business – or at least that is what he claimed. He forgot his lines all the time and invented new scenes and dialogue on the spot. He loved dramatic death scenes and would repeat them – or any other scenes he happened to take a fancy to – three to four times over. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Coates_%28actor%29
