Novel Title: Be Careful What You Wish For Written By: GlowingScenes -CHAPTER 27- When Scar got to the party with Rea, she felt awkward and shy as this was her first party. She had tried calling Josh earlier to tell him about the party at Rachel’s place but it kept going to voice mail and so she resigned. She was going to let loose and enjoy herself, probably even meet him here too since she noticed most of the football team had gathered again but she stayed clear. she recognized the stares but ignored it and decided to pretend like she was part of this new clique of popular boys and girls in high school. She felt surprised at the way Rea acted. Like she was used to things like this but she didn’t query further and went to get herself a can coke. One thing she wasn’t going to do in a party like this was get drunk. Rachel came up to her beaming excitedly in a very short gown which was held by just a shoulder strap but brought out all the necessary curves in her body and her hair flowed freely behind. “you look great.’’ Scar commented. It was hard to believe Rachel was just 17 with her whole make up look. “thank you. Please make yourself comfortable’’ She gushed and winked at her before hurrying off to someplace else A few minutes later, Sheila was standing on an already prepared podium which Scarlett just noticed to be like the center of attraction and calling people’s attention towards her. It was then she saw the crowd at the party. Rachel had promised less but this was so much more. Rea stood beside her saying something about getting herself a drink while Scar just stood attentive wondering what Sheila Banks was going to present on Rachel’s birthday. She didn’t know they were that close for Sheila to be honoring her with some sort of prepared speech or was It poem? “as you all know.’’ The slim blonde began. ‘’every story has a beginning and an end, if it’s a poem, it has a beautiful sensation and if it happens to be some form of drama, it just goes on playing right before your face. But with what I’m about to read to you, I would like you guys to discern what a category like this fits into.’’ She smiled and Scarlett knew that type of smile anytime. The smile of mischief coupled with disdain. But why? And for what reason? She continued her voice taking a different tone. ‘’all day long I sat alone watching Josh Riley but he wouldn’t even give me a glance. I remember the first time our eyes met at a little family get together and I thought I would melt. And from that day on, I just couldn’t get my eyes off him in school. He plays on the field with such energy and vigour and I wish he’d hold me and kiss me.’’ “awww…’’ a few sighs could be heard in the crowd while the boys broke into mocking laughter. Scarlett froze as the world around her seemed to have stopped moving. Someone had taken hold of her journal and here they were reading it in public. “I wrote a little poem for him today and it goes.. I close my eyes and I see you so close to me, I walk each day alone wondering how real this is all to me I dream of that perfect day when we will kiss and everything will melt around us. You and me, we’ll always be together with time unable to separate us.’’ I know I”ve never been kissed before and I really want my first kiss to be from Josh Riley cos he’s so amazing and I bet his lips will be so soft and warm reaching to the depths of my soul.’’ “seriously?’’ someone shouted from the crowd in a mocking tone. ‘’why don’t I give you the first kiss baby and you’ll be forgetting you have a soul and begging me for more.’’ Everybody laughed again and different noises could be heard from the crowd, some booing while some were just having fun. Majority were laughing so hard, wondering who the pathetic girl was. Scar had begun to cry and Susan noticed and took her hand not knowing what to say or do “lets leave Scar.’’ She whisphered ‘’Josh and I share dreams together and I wait so much for the day when he’ll be bold enough to let the whole world know we belong together.’’ “give me a break!’’ someone yelled “I’ve never felt beautiful before, but Josh tells me I’m beautiful. I feel like that ugly duckling who has emerged into a beautiful swan when he looks at me and I feel so high I can sing.’’ ‘’And if you’re still wondering what category to fit this in, don’t worry anymore cos our star of the night stands right in our midst watching this whole drama unfold. Give it up for “the diary of a little pathetic low-life Scarlett Rose Ruby.’’ And the whole crowd roared into laughter like they had been waiting for this moment. At that moment, Scarlett wished the ground would open up and swallow her but since it didn’t, she managed to walk home with Rea leading her gently. None said a word. Mandy felt it was wrong most especially when they had to sneak into her bedroom to sleep with each other and she talked to Joe about it. He hesitated at first but got to a conclusion that they would have to tell Rea. She was still in bed one morning when he brought up the divorce issue. ‘’I wont need to be signing those papers anymore do i?’’ he walked up to her and climbed in beside her She was still feeling sleepy when the full realization of what he was saying dawned on her. It had been two weeks now and she had to make up her mind if she still wanted out or in. Or had he been using her so that she wouldn’t get half of his wealth? She suddenly looked up at him, doubt clouding her eyes. ‘’I still need to think about it.’’ she mumbled and turned her back to him. He didn’t give up and traced a finger down her spine. ‘’you think we shouldn’t give it another try?’’ She shivered at that single action. He needed to stop touching her so that she would focus but he didn’t stop. He trailed kisses on her neck and shoulders and she closed her eyes before turning to him fully. “maybe…’’ “maybe what?’’ he had a glint in his dark brown eyes “maybe we should give it another try.’’ She tried to hold back her laughter but it escaped right out of her throat when he dug his face into her neck. She had been trying to reach Scarlett all to no avail. She checked her at home but her parents responded coldly saying she wasn’t home. The girl wouldn’t even pick her phone. And then the palpable tension between her parents was so obvious Were they trying to hide something from her cos they were not succeeding at all. Was it the slight gazes or the way they moved around each other like shy teenagers? She didn’t know much about relationships but she knew when a man and a woman started acting so excitingly awkward towards each other, there was much more to it than divorce She was beginning to think the opposite infact. She waved it aside knowing that was the least of her problems and tried eating though she lacked appetite. She wanted to cry and she wanted to yell at everyone. She didn’t want this life anymore. ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; After days of the past event and Scarlett had cried her eyes sore, thinking it was probably Susan and Rachel who had planned the whole humiliating scene, she took the courage to return to school after her parents had assured her that they would move due to her wish and what she was feeling presently. They didn’t allow Josh near their daughter. That was one thing they made sure of before anything else. She was going to get a transfer and they would begin working on it. Today was homecoming and though they adviced her against going, she summoned up courage and determined to see Josh. to prove something to herself. Scarlett drove alone to the lake and sat there for a while, not doing anything but just staring into space. After hours had passed, she stood and started throwing stones into the lake and watched the ripples form. She thought of her humiliation two days ago and how Josh had tried calling her but she didn’t pick. Finally she just turned the thing off. She didn’t know how fast she would recover but she knew she wasn’t going to be doing that in this town anymore. She was leaving for good, and so what better way to spend her last day in town than to go and watch the game in school. ‘;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; “hey ugly duckling.’’ Some boys teased when she strolled past them and she tried as much as possible to ignore their comment. “mind if I kiss you and change you into a swan?’’ and they laughed while she buried her head and kept on walking. Another mimicked a girl’s voice. ‘’oh Josh, we’ll be together and nothing can separate us. We’re soul mates.’’ Their laughter tore through her but she ignored them and kept walking. She finally got to her locker, saw the “ugly duckling” tag being written boldly on it and told herself not to break down again. After all, she wasn’t coming back. She unpacked all her things and turned just to be hit by another team of boys hereby making all her things fall on the floor. “oops, sorry plump duck.’’ And they walked past. Some girls saw her and giggled leaving her to pack her things all by herself. Scarlett closed her eyes and told herself she was going to overcome this. If she could overcome the fact that she didn’t take pills to commit suicide or drown herself in the bathtub, then she could overcome this humiliation for one whole day. Just one day. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Rea heard about what happened to her best friend from Sue and wished she had been there to beat the crap out of Sheila Banks. She didn’t even know what to do most especially when Sue explained the whole scene and how Scar thinks she was also involved. Rea cried and wished things were back to normal, and that she was back into her former body. She was going to miss Ryan, no doubt but her best friend was at stake here and being in Susan’s body didn’t help her anymore. Susan wished the same and felt so bad about everything. Being in Rea’s body made her helpless and Scar needed someone better than her And they both wished. ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; Scar saw Sheila and tried to avoid her but the girl blocked her path and with the help of Janice and Rachel, she was trapped. “too bad things couldn’t work out well with Josh sweetie.’’ She cooed and gave her a satisfactory smile. Scar was quiet but looked at Rachel instead. ‘’can I have my journal back please?’’ Rachel looked at Janice and Sheila and when they nodded, she threw it right at her. She bent down to pick it up. “just wanted to tell you about how Josh and I are getting back together again. Sorry about the whole thing he put you through. You were a good library friend though and he wanted me to tell you that.’’ “I don’t believe you.’’ She managed to choke out “oh really, you don’t? it never occurred to you that He wasn’t there at the party where your dairy drama unfolded with all your letters you exchanged. He didn’t have the heart to tell you to your face just in case you freaked out.’’ Scarlett didn’t know when the tears started rolling down her face and she wiped it with the back of her hand. “are you satisfied?’’ Sheila shrugged and smiled. ‘’you’re not a competition in the first place so why shouldn’t I be?’ And they walked away. ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; Scarlett endured till the end of the game and saw the crowd cry in uproar when their school won and she knew this was meant to be one of the beautiful moments of her life where she would stare down at Josh and watch him play But the tears clouded her vision and all she could wish for when she watched him was to prove what Sheila had said wrong. that was the proof she needed Overall, she began to wish they never came across each other and she suddenly hated everybody. Mostly, she hated herself and contemplated on taking an overdose pill tonight. There was no point. She was leaving And just when she thought she’d had enough, she saw Josh take off his helmet and before she could get her last glance at his handsome face filled with triumph, His ex-girlfriend had already jumped on him engaging him in a tongue-wet kiss which he didn’t resist. She closed her eyes and sighed knowing there was no use fighting for what wasn’t hers in the first place.
