November 02, 2013 ALL SOULS First Reading: Wis 3;1-9 Second Reading: Rom 6:3-4, 8-9 Gospel Reading: Matthew 25:31-46 Jesus said to his disciples, When the Son of Man comes in his glory with all his angels, he will sit on the throne of his Glory. All the nations will be brought before him, and as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, so will he do with them, placing the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. The King will say to those on his right: Come, blessed of my Father! Take possession of the kingdom prepared for you from the beginning of the world. For I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me into your house. I was naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to see me. Then the good people will ask him: Lord, when did we see you hungry and give you food; thirsty and give you drink, or a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to see you? The King will answer, Truly, I say to you: when-ever you did this to these little ones who are my brothers and sisters, you did it to me. Then he will say to those on his left: Go, cursed people, out of my sight into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels! For I was hungry and you did not give me anything to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink; I was a stranger and you did not welcome me into your house; I was naked and you did not clothe me; I was sick and in prison and you did not visit me. They, too, will ask: Lord, when did we see you hungry, thirsty, naked or a stranger, sick or in prison, and did not help you? The King will answer them: Truly, I say to you: whatever you did not do for one of these little ones, you did not do for me. And these will go into eternal punishment, but the just to eternal life. D@iGITAL-EXPERIENCE (Daily Gospel in the Assimilated Life Experience) Sappho, an ancient Greek poet, wrote: “Death is an evil; the gods have so judged; had it been good, they would die.” But had Sappho known our God, he would have withdrawn this argument. Our God embraced death, not because he did not agree death is evil but because in his wisdom he knew that the only way to subdue death is to embrace it. By dying our God snatched death away from Satan’s control and turned it into a cleansing. Death cleansing effect works well with those who believe. The cleansing happens in two levels. At the first level death comes in the form of trials and persecutions that purge us of pride and arrogance. At the second level death strikes for real to make way for eternal life. No such cleansing happens to those whose god has refused to die. - Rev. Fr. Dan Domingo P. delos Angeles, Jr., DM. Email:dan.delosangeles@gmail. Website: frdan.org. PRAYER FOR THE DAY: God of the living, may all our loved ones who have died live in your love, enjoying peace which escaped them so often in life. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Title: Christ’s conquest of death FEAST OF THE DAY: ALL SOULS. Purgatory is the place or state in which the souls who die with venial sin, or have fully atoned for their past transgressions, are purified before entering into paradise. The suffering of purgatory consists of the intense pain of longing for God, whose beatific vision is delayed. Paradise and hell are eternal while purgatory will end at the judgment day. We can help the souls in purgatory expiate their sins by offering alms, prayers and masses. For proof of existence of Purgatory, read 2 Maccabees 12:46). LITURGICAL NOTES: On the first 8 days of November, the faithful may gain a plenary indulgence by visiting a cemetery and praying for the dead. On the other days of the year, only a partial indulgence is gained. Today and on the Commemoration of the faithful departed, or according to the directives of the Ordinary, on the Sunday preceding of following November 2, one plenary indulgence may be gained by visiting a church or oratory and by praying the “Our Father’ and the Creed”, and a prayer for the intention of the Holy Father.
