November 1 THE GOSPEL GIVES FAITH So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 The gospel of Christ does not demand faith but rather gives faith to those that hear it. Many people think they have to put their faith in the gospel in order to be saved. On the contrary, when a man hears the gospel, the gospel dispenses the faith of Christ to him, enabling him to believe in the Lord. It takes supernatural faith to be saved; and that supernatural faith is dispensed at the hearing of the gospel of Christ. The faith of Christ is in the gospel of Christ! Confession of the Lordship of Jesus Christ is what saves eternally. However, a man cannot confess the Lordship of One he doesn’t believe in; and he cannot believe until he hears the gospel of Christ. Paul the Apostle stated in his letter to the church at Rome: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:13-15). One must believe to confess; but he can only believe when he hears the gospel. Therefore, it is the gospel (The goodnews of Christ salvation) that gives faith. This was the conclusion of Paul the Apostle: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom 10:17) Every believer has the faith of Christ because every believer has heard and obeyed the gospel of Christ. The believer stands in the gospel of Christ (1Cor 15:1) living by the faith of Christ. When we listen to messages or study the word, we acknowledge the faith of Christ that is already in us and we are instructed on how to use it effectively. We don’t get faith by studying the word, we already have it. We acquire knowledge by studying the word and thus we become effective in using the faith; because faith functions by knowledge. We live by the faith of Christ! In Galatians 2:20, Paul declared “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” Prayer I do not lack faith; I have the faith of Christ and I live by it, triumphing over circumstances of life.
