November 12th, 2014, 5:31 pm Body found in Rappahannock was Washington man RELATED: See more crime news from the Fredericksburg region BY KEITH EPPS / THE FREE LANCE–STAR A man whose body was found floating in the Rappahannock River on Monday morning has been identified as 26-year-old Anthony Horace Gibson of Washington, D.C. According to King George Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kecia Wharton, Gibson came to King George County on Oct. 14 and was staying with his mother. His mother reported him missing on Oct. 23. Earlier this month, Wharton said, a county resident reported that a trail camera he had set up in the woods off Millbank Road in King George had captured an image of a man wading through water. The image had been captured on Oct. 23 at 4:30 a.m., the same day his mother reported him missing. The Sheriff’s Office identified the man in the water as Gibson. On Friday, King George deputies and DOGS–East, a volunteer K–9 search and rescue organization, spent several hours searching the area between State Route 3 and Gera and Millbank roads, but found no sign of Gibson. But on Monday, a fisherman spotted a body downriver from Berry Plains Landing in King George. Deputies recovered the body and sent it to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond for positive identification. Wharton said police are still trying to determine how and why Gibson, who was wanted in Maryland on charges that including failing to appear in court, ended up in the river.
