November 4th, 2014..by Mom..David Fabus. Today has been a good day for Joey so far. His blood work continues to be good. The neuro surgery resident came up and removed his EVD..temporary drain. So far so good which is what I would expect at this point being he hadnt drained in days. I am pleased his surgeon decided to test the shunts necessity. I worried that putting one back in after the infection would be a risk..I understand that they wouldnt do a revision until clear but it was a concern. Now at least if he needs another shunt..hopefully by the time he does..this setback will be long gone and history..giving him maybe a better chance of no complications. All being said..we know worse things are to come. But..now that he is free from his tag-a-long friend and the IVs..he can move about more freely and we dont have to call the nurse everytime he wants to move. So..its just Joey and I today..his dad left to attend his uncles viewing..he sadly passed away a few days ago. Joey and I took a walk to the sun room..he sat in the chair for a while too. He is now back in bed sleeping. We had a few visitors Joseph J Mckeown and Jake Millerand his friend Brian ..nice of them all to stop by to see him. He enjoyed messaging his sister Olivia Fabus on the IPAD and loved the videos of the cat that she sent him..loved the time with him today. One thing that may seem strange to you all..I kept the stitches they cut out that were holding in his drain and I even kept the drain itself that went into his head..I cleaned it of course but the only folks who would understand this are the moms I have met thru Facebook who are in or have been in the same or very similar situations as myself..some of us belong to a cancer moms group. It was part of him so I kept it.Waiting to see what the rest of the day brings us..stay Joey Strong!
