Installing an RCD should ALWAYS be carried out by a certified electricians, if you use the services of a firm or individual who doesn’t have the necessary safety certificates and registration, you run the risk of an electrical accident or worse. When you use a REPUTABLE ELECTRICAL COMPANY, the work will be certified and guaranteed. If you have a fire as a result of RCD installation by a non-qualified electrician, your insurance company may not protect you. SAFE ELECTRICITY AT WORK AS WELL AS IN THE HOME The Electricity at Work regulations, state that electrical wiring and installation should be visually tested on an annual basis, and that all companies must have comprehensive inspection every five years. A regular installation inspection will be able to alert a business owner to any problems that may become dangerous if left unattended. PAT TESTING IS IMPORTANT As an increasing number of companies rely on more and more electrical appliances within the office environment a PAT test is also recommended. PAT testing isn’t mandatory, but if you want to reduce accidents and the risk of fire, it’s a very good idea. Companies that constantly expand their IT or construction companies that use power tools should have a regular PAT test. ELECTRICAL SAFETY FOR LANDLORDS If you’re a landlord or a letting agent, you must be registered with your local authority. Under the terms of this registration you have to have your electrical installation and appliances checked out under the terms of the 2006 Housing Act (Scotland).
