November 6, Thursday Weekday Let hearts rejoice who search for the Lord. — Psalm 105:3b Mass Readings: Philippians 3:3-8a/Luke 15:1-10 Lost and Found At first, the lost sheep in the Gospel may have thought he was on an adventure. (I know how sheep think; I’ve been one, more than once.) Or maybe he just noticed something shiny that attracted him. Suddenly he looked around and realized he’d lost sight of the Shepherd. And the rest of the flock. And it was getting dark. He was hungry and tired. Most of all he was alone, something completely contrary to a sheep’s nature. When the Shepherd found him, the sheep felt relief and gratitude, but most powerfully he remembered that he belonged. He had a life, a home, following the Shepherd with his companions. He couldn’t recall what had possessed him to wander. The knowledge that the sheep would wander again did nothing to diminish the Shepherd’s joy. Prayer: God, never let me forget that my place is with You.
