Now I know my boy is going to live and I can breath again I can - TopicsExpress

Now I know my boy is going to live and I can breath again I can finally share and warn my fellow boxer/dog lovers of the dangers of old thin brittle floor to ceiling glass windows... So my poor angel fletcher has just had emergency life saving surgery because he went through the sun room window and a shard of glass knifed him through his chest into his diaphragm and through the thoracic lining puncturing a lung and severing an artery!! The vet said another 5-10 minutes and he would have been dead from bleeding out or from lung collapse.. The vet said we acted correctly by not panicking and him staying calm whilst applying pressure and keeping his heart rate down.... I couldnt believe how large the wound was to fit my hand in it and that there was internals coming out through the gash. He has had an hour of surgery to flush out and stitch all the internal damage and remove a large shard of glass and to secure the artery as well as 2 other superficial flesh wounds that needed stitching and a puncture wound which was flushed and is now a large hematoma.. He has obviously stayed in over night to watch his blood platelets as they had dropped to 21 and they are meant to be between 35-45 and make sure they rise but Erik (his son) was on standby to be a blood donor if fletch needed a transfusion through the night because he had lost approximately 2/3 of total blood volume.. Great news now is Fletchy is drinking and been out to the toilet and his bloods are back up to 32 now, so he is recovering well. He is staying in another 24 hours to continue fluids and they have hit him hard with serious antibiotics to ward off peritonitis because of internals being exposed.. I thought he was going to bleed out right in front of us, it looked like a massacre in the house, the car, Pete and I were dripping in blood and the house still smells like rust from all the blood even though I have mopped twice...Terrifying... The vet had told us he is one very lucky boy and fate was on our side.. Please anyone with windows like mine board them off if a rental or replace them if its your own home. Fletcher only tried to bite at a fly and his front paws have landed against the glass from what I can tell and has gone completely through so easily!! Im so grateful and lucky he is alive.. I have posted some pics in comments so its up to your discretion to look...
