Now Im not sure this is a blacklist case, but I wonder. Has anyone else been unimpressed by the supermarket Zol BeShefa in Herzl street, Haifa? Actually, if those electro shocks I got there had been any stronger, I would be more than impressed, I would be branded and my cats would fight over the barbecue that would be my hand. I mean, maybe its just white privilege talking, but I am not used to having a creature as lowly as a shopping cart zap and buzz the living shit out of me every time I touch it. And maybe its her very own form of resistance against the Occupation, but the girl behind the customer service counter who is in charge of empty bottles, talking on the phone and gesturing for me to wait a minute... 2 minutes... 12 minutes... while her vocal and body language clearly suggest her call is personal, what with all the laughters and Habibis, struck me as way out of line. When she saw me standing there shifting and squirming with back and joint pain, tapping my foot, sighing, holding bags with 50 empty bottles and cans, and sweating. Especially when she told me she had no change for me and Id just have to make do with a voucher, as if I needed a bag of pretzels more than 2 bus rides. Again I am suspecting white privilege behind my assumption that she could just haul her manucured ass to one of the cashiers and say, Hey, I need 15 Shekels for this bottle transaction, but Im not sure. Not to mention my having missed a significant difference in their general price range that would justify a name that not so roughly translates to Cheapo Galore.
