Now That You Are Married #8: I like watching sports. Cindy - TopicsExpress

Now That You Are Married #8: I like watching sports. Cindy likes watching silly, sappy old movie musicals or movies on Lifetime Channel. I relax by doing something – playing golf, taking a walk, riding my motorcycle, or working out. Cindy relaxes by relaxing. (In fact, I’m typing this while on vacation. I’m typing. She’s sleeping.) I like buying one nice thing. Cindy likes buying a bunch of not quite as nice things. I am a quiet introvert. Cindy is an outgoing extrovert who can talk to a stranger in the line at the grocery store. I don’t like parties. Cindy loves a party, any party. I’m very sensitive. Cindy isn’t. If I sleep four straight hours, it’s a miracle! Cindy can sleep for ten, and still take a nap that afternoon. I like modern furniture and decorating. Cindy likes the classic “homey” feel. By now, you’ve probably figured out, me and Cindy are radically different! I don’t try to change Cindy, and she doesn’t try to change me. We love each other in spite of our differences. In fact, we probably love each other more because of our differences! Don’t try to change your spouse into what you are. In the end, you won’t change her and you run the risk of being resented. Instead, recognize you probably need to do the changing. Learn from your spouse’s strengths. I’ll probably never become as extroverted as Cindy, but I’m better than I was. I’m learning to relax more, by truly relaxing instead of doing. But, I’ll still never watch those movies on Lifetime! Written for Tyler and Emilie and all my friends on the journey to a healthy, happy, home.
