Now heres a thing. the UK government has declared that the Harrier is obsolete yet the US Navy continues to use it. The USAs defence budget is so huge that they could easily afford to replace the Harrier, but they dont. It was one of our most tactically useful aircraft, fully capable of being upgraded to accommodate modern technology, yet it is being replaced with vastly more expensive F35 Airfix kit machines that need monstrously expensive carriers to launch from and land on. I find it incredibly odd that our government should scrap an aircraft whose flexibility made it a must have both during the Cold War (Germany) and during the Falklands conflict, while our largest NATO ally retains it in service. This aircrafts VTOL capability means it can land ANYWHERE, not just aboard seagoing vessels. All we operate now are aircraft that require runways in order to launch and land. Any genuine enemy in a future conflict could therefore entirely eliminate our air defence capability by simply trashing our airfields, as our also obsolete Vulcans did at Port Stanley. One things for sure. There wont be any Airfix kit bloody Eurofighters landing on stools any time soon. https://uk.screen.yahoo/video/playlist/amazing-planes/watch-marine-pilot-land-crippled-145749186.html
