Now here’s the answer to our trivia question. Who is Don - TopicsExpress

Now here’s the answer to our trivia question. Who is Don Bowman and what place does he hold in American Top 40 history? So who is Don Bowman, well for starters he was a disc jockey who became famous for hosting the popular country music countdown show, American Country Countdown. Mr. Bowman was ACC’s very first host, he began hosting ACC in 1973 when ACC was born. Mr. Bowman was the show’s regular host until 1978 when Bob Kingsley took over and became the shows new host. But long before becoming the host of ACC, Don Bowman filled in for other DJ’s, including Casey Kasem and it is Mr. Bowman’s stint filling in for Casey Kasem that he may be mostly remembered for. Don and Casey had been radio friends for many years. They were DJs together at KEWB in San Francisco. Don Bowman was asked by the AT40 staff to fill in for Casey Kasem on the June 16th 1973 American Top 40 show. After playing the #1 song, Bowman then read the end credits and then he gained fame (or, infamy if you prefer) for poking fun at Caseys famous signoff slogan...and getting away with it. Now at the end of that show Don Bowman was supposed to say: “Till then, as Casey would say: “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.” However, for one reason or another Bowman decided to change the script and in closing, said: Till then and Casey, if youre listening, keep your feet on the ground and dont step on any stars. That defiantly was not written down for Don Bowman to say on the air, and we may never know why Don Bowman decided to poke fun at Casey’s sign off slogan. Casey never heard what Bowman said until many years later. Casey explained: I wasnt around, if Id known about it, Idve asked Don Bustany not to use it. Don Bowman died June 5th 2013, but during his lifetime, he became the only American Top 40 substitute host to get away with poking fun at Casey Kasems sign off slogan. Well, not really, Don Bowman filled in for Casey Kasem only once and after that memorable show, he was never asked by the AT40 staff to sub again. Both Don Bowman and Casey Kasem are now in Heaven. Maybe now Don Bowman will have to tell Casey why he poked fun at his sign off slogan. Rest in peace Don and Casey and keep reaching for those stars in Heaven. And that’s this week’s AT20 Trivia Quiz. Quite an interesting question this week. Now with an AT20 Extra, here’s the alternative rock band Live, with a big hit from 2003, “Heaven.” https://youtube/watch?v=z_nImUzRv0w
