Now is the time to rescue the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago from the clutches of those involved in alleged acts of corruption and without integrity and morality in public office! By definition a Republic is a state or nation in which the supreme power rests in all the citizens entitled to vote (the electorate) and is exercised by representatives elected, directly or indirectly, by them and responsible to them. Today after 37 years as a Republic, we the people of Trinidad and Tobago must take responsibility for the state of our Beloved Republic; for we have abandoned our responsibility and allowed those who we elect to represent us, operate as if they are the owners of the Nation. It is time that we let them know that The Power of the People Is Greater Than the People in Power. So as we get another chance to make the politics right, let us vote wisely and elect into office those who can best represent our interests and do all the things necessary to create a Society where everyone counts and there is Social Justice and Equity for all. It is only then we would be able to truly appreciate and understand our worth as Citizens of a Republic. In the meantime we would continue to just celebrate this day as a public holiday without appreciating its importance.
