Now its the Philippines, and those of us who live on the Ring of Fire should especially take note: we are getting a good look at our own future if we dont end our assault on the planet. Global warming is not just some quack-birds dream - its real, always has been as our earth tumbled undisturbed through its ice ages and thaws. However, things changed with the industrial revolution of the late 1700s. Though it began with the idea of using water for fuel, it inspired many brilliant minds who experimented with other fuels, ones that scar and dirty our planet (oh yeah, and kill our miners.) Scientists sent out their warnings and their proof but we sat taking selfies, and watched the Ozone layer disappear, Greenland lose much of its ice cap. The polar bear habitat in the Arctic is nearly gone: they are floating off to starve on bits of ice and may well be extinct soon. It is true: the seas ARE rising with the melt. We need to sit down and ask ourselves Is this lifestyle worth it? Deny global warming if you must, but understand that this world has been trasnformed by Western ways, mainly our greedy commitment to bigger-better-faster-more. Its no longer true that he with the most marbles wins: what if we dont have the big blue marble one anymore?
