Now that I dont have to wait for the results of my statistical analysis (which is being farmed out and may not be back till June) to submit my final set of PhD diss revisions to my supervisors, but have till the end of the month, I have the luxury of reconsidering my arguments. Re-reading some of what Id written yesterday, I wondered whether Id proved anything at all or even followed a logical trajectory. Writing without the results of the statistical analysis means that I do have to take into consideration the possibility that some unknown aspect of my own research may refute my conclusions while making it easy for my readers to follow the trajectory of my own thinking. Arguably, that is the point of all science: you put your work out there and wait for falsification. rather diff than making art, where you just pass or fail on getting attention from people you respect. As I come to this conclusion, I am ever more educated in the Zen of the whole process, including any hubris I may have started with about making an impact on anyone else. May the force be with me. I could also start on the book. Which may be the greatest hubris of all.
