Now that I finally have a moment all I can say is WOW!!! since March I have been blessed to travel to... Greenville SC (twice) Philadelphia PA Oakland CA San Fransisco CA Atlanta GA Jacksonville and Tallahassee FL Phoenix AZ Los Angeles CA not to mention all the little towns in between. I have traveled more in the last 6 months than I have in my entire life and I still cant believe it, feels like a dream. This only happened because of four reasons: 1. I gave it all to God. No matter what decisions I make(foolish or otherwise) or what happens from those decisions my goal is ultimately to find and fulfill the purpose HE created me for. The more I gave into what the Universe was telling me to do and the less I stressed about the things I cant control the more opportunities I received to better my craft, further my message, and partner with those who would help me grow. 2. I stayed true to myself, on and off of the stage. I know what is right and wrong and even though I may have made some mistakes I work on correcting them every day and always try to do what I feel what I have come to believe is righteous. I may not always succeed but I always, ALWAYS try to remember that I am here for good, for God, and for the PEOPLE that I can touch, this turns every failure into a lesson and stepping stone. That goes for my writing as well. Honesty and truth always connects and impacts more than formula or gimmicky writing. 3. I work for my community and it keeps coming back. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! To all the people who have donated or prayed or helped in my travels, to my Tampa Bay Poetry community, to my Bruce Street family, to my BOBR family, to my spiritual counselors, to my mentors, to my close family, to my woman, and to the greatest network of amazing people you can ever come in contact with: the poets around the country that, fed me gave me a place to crash, gave me shows features, and looked out for a traveling brother. There are so many people who helped it is impossible to list, but that just goes to shows you... IT TAKES A VILLAGE!!!!! I love you all with all my heart! 4. I remember every day that this is bigger than me. What I do is very fulfilling and I am very happy with my life and what I have achieved but that feeling of fulfillment comes from the journey of working my PURPOSE! The people that God put in my path to guide me coupled with hands on experience of my daily life are what helped me come to understand that I am but a SMALL part of what is truly being done. My work has put me in a position to help those who hurt heal, to help guide the youth that I can work with, to help improve the people and culture I have come to love so much, to create spaces and opportunities for others to grow, be loved and understand their purpose, to be an example that no matter what you have done or been through YOU control how you experience this world and YOU have the power to fulfill all your dreams and aspirations if you follow your destiny and put in the work, and ultimitely to represent the love of God. THAT is why I do what I do. Time to pay it forward and bring my experiences back to the city and community that helped make me.
