Now that most of our pple are busy on 2015 elections, we are busy on restoration of our electricity. Thank God our letter below has bn received by the Managing Director and the Customer Service Complaint of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc, South West Headquaters, Ibadan and they promised to restore the electricity of Ipokia town and its environ very soon. thanks to the team,Buhari mudathir, Dare Olawin, Ismael Adeosi, Ajikobi Quadiri, Ajikobi Mujeeb and Bello Wakeel . 18th November, 2014 The Managing Director, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, South-West Headquarters, Ibadan. Dear Sir, COMPLAINTS ON TOTAL BLACKOUT IN IPOKIA TOWNSHIP FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS We write to express our dissatisfaction over non-availability of power supply in Ipokia Township and other villages close to it since 2012. Ipokia is the headquarters of Ipokia Local Government Council in Ogun State. It is highly unspeakable that despite the significance of the town, it has always been receiving little or no attention from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), now Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). There have been complaints from all and sundry about this development, but all to no avail. Most times, there would be power supply in Ihunbo, Ilase, Ajegunle, Idiroko, Agosasa and some other communities under Ipokia, but Ipokia, which is just five minutes’ drive from Agosasa, would be cut off for no reason. Everything has now become exacerbated as the community has been thrown into total darkness since 2012, with great neglect from your officials. As it usually occurs, there is power supply in other parts of the local government, except Ipokia. Is this not deliberate? Sir, the negative effects of this situation on our people are enormous. Lack of power supply has killed many small scale businesses; most artisans and traders spend a lot on alternative power sources, thereby bringing about a hike in prices of commodities and services. Those who cannot afford generators have run out of business and are now jobless. The era of enjoying home appliances with public power supply is no more; only the well-to-do buy fuel with their hard-earned money to power their generators. The hardship is inexplicable. Lack of power supply has also hindered the growth of Ipokia as people migrate to nearby communities to build houses and set up businesses. What a disheartening situation! When PHCN was sold to IBEDC, we were happy, we thought things would change for good; we thought the new company would do a survey of its customers so as to be more responsive and responsible to their yearnings and complaints, but it seems our guesses were wrong. We are still in the same situation as before. A business organisation cares for its customers to satisfy them and to make sure its income does not reduce at the end of the year. Since 2012, nobody has the guts to go to Ipokia and request for electricity charges from customers. This is certainly a loss to this organisation if we want to be frank with each other as business-oriented persons. Sir, we hereby plead with you to use your good office to come to our aid and ensure the restoration of power supply to our community. The darkness in Ipokia since 2012 came to us as a surprise and we want an end to it. The local government, alongside the youth of the community, has re-erected the fallen poles and reconnected cables. The onus is now on your organisation to put an end to the days of blackout in Ipokia. Please let the community enjoy this infrastructure and boost its commercial activities. Government has done its parts; we await speedy actions from your good organisation. Please come to our aid. Thanks in anticipation of your quick intervention. We look forward to seeing positive changes in Ipokia as far as power is concerned. Yours faithfully, --------------------------------- Dare Olawin (General Secretary)
