Now that the Bay Hill Invitational is in full swing a memory from thirty or so years ago. There was to be an Arnold Palmer roast at the Contemporary Hotel at Disney. The ballroom was packed with locals as well as celebrities. At the time the womens movement was just getting started so there was a feeling that a woman should be represented in everything. At the time I was the in the spotlight woman in Orlando so I was asked to be a surprise roaster. OK but that night my son and I (my date) were seated as far away from the podium as was possible. There were ten chairs on the stage and after all the celebrities did their thing I was to stand up and shout You cant have a roast without a woman and then rush to the stage. Once this was underway I realized with Disney security if I were to suddenly stand up and start running to the stage I could easily be tackled. Only a couple of people knew of this ;planned roast. I talked three corporate type guys into bending down and following me all the way. I have to tell you I was trembling by the time I made it to the podium. I remember Arnie looking at me like what the hell is this all about. I have no idea what I said other than telling a joke. I must have done ten roasts that year and some people I barely knew. Needless to say, Arnie and the others barely knew me.
