Now that the World Cup is over I want to say this... Its been really hard for me to listen to so much of the hate spewed at Leo Messi. They say hes not going to go down as one of the greats until he wins a World Cup and how he hasnt done enough to help his team win, etc. Heres the thing... I watched every single game Argentina played (thanks to my good friend Pablo Gallastegui). I watch Messi always ALWAYS have at least 2 defenders, if not 3 or 4 swarm him the second the ball came his direction. The only thing he did? Score or assist in 6 of 8 games. He led his team to the final where they faced a team comprised of a slew of players who play together at Bayern Munich every day and have won a couple (in other words A TON) of trophies, including the champions league) over the past 3 years. Thats pretty impressive if you ask me. Now, with that all said, some of my friends will remember 4 years ago when I said watch, Germany will be one of the best teams at the next World Cup. Then, this year when people asked me who I thought would win I said either Germany or the Dutch. I guess you could say Ive been paying a little attention to the sport? I just wish the so-called knowledgable commentators would do the same.
