Now that we had a talk with the dr things are much clearer and we feel better. It is much easier when the doctors talk logical to me then to bits and pieces and hope I piece it together. Not to mention if I hear all preemie s do this Im going to knock someone out. I know my son and my gut was dead on! Alexs symptoms at virtua had two avenues it could take which is why they moved him. 1st - infection 2nd - issue with his liver or other more in-depth GI issue. Since his white blood count and crp was off they immediately started antibiotics to fight what ever was going on until the other labs came back. Once he started having Brady s (low heart rate) and respiratory issues they changed the antibiotics. Its tricking bc his labs and cultures so far show no infection but since they take such a small amount of blood its possible nothing will show up or grow. They also test for the Billie Rubin twice a week to make sure it goes down. Since the Billie is decreasing it further confirms to them.that the antibiotics is working and following their prognosis of infection. Of course i questioned the dr about my fear.... the fear is since they dont have a postive test result then how they going to confirm he Is out of the woods once his antibiotics is over? I need facts! Basically, there is no way other than waiting and praying he is good but after two weeks of antibiotics and as long as his Billie doesnt go back up he should be ok. Now his bille gets checked Monday. If they continue to go down great. If not we have number 2 above to deal with. So of course we have our wins, big poopie, tolerating his feeds and gaining weight! We will take them! ! Its a rollercoaster for sure but at least I understand the game plan and reasons for the madness! Communication is so damn Important!
