Now time for a film that was my favourite ever until the dawn of Gladiator, Finding Nemo. The tragic tale of a small clown fish lost at sea, and the spirited father (and his oblivious accomplice) on a quest to find him. The characters all have terrifically unique and watchable personalities, particularly Dory, whose bumbling antics lead to many laughs, but some serious moments as well (queue Jelly Fish). The paternal spirit of Marlin is great, and his voice actor really fits the whole protective father vibe. He will forever be known to me as That one guy from Finding Nemo. Ellen as Dory is great too (dang that April Fools joke) and Nemo himself provides ample entertainment, although a tad off-par with the far superior Marlin/Dory arc. The other characters provide good comic relief themselves, especially the Sharks who have immortalised the line: Fish are friends, not food. (still love seafood though :P). Everything is gloriously animated in the Pixar kind of way, and the talented men and women there really bring the vibrant and majestic life of the 1.3 trillion fish in the Ocean to life, with vivid colouring that dances like some insane rainbow, weaving its way throughout the plot; it really is a work of art. Its music is great too, really fitting the sea aspect superbly. It builds a great atmosphere, broken in a sad but also empowering finale. The light shines of the scales of the fish, and its a step up from earlier work (like monsters Inc. discussed yesterday) with sleek and smooth visuals of the fish moving surprisingly naturally, and with real believability. Overall, its a really impressive tale of love- and a different kind of love to what weve come to expect in these kids movies. 7.5-awesome Incredibles Tomorrow :D
