Now whos the madman now ???? ------One of Edison’s employees, Nikola Tesla, born in Croatia tried to develop an alternating current motor. However, Edison did not agree. He considered alternating current dangerous. Therefore, Tesla opened his own laboratory and in 1888 he developed the motor. His patent was bought by George Westinghouse, who spread his invention around the whole country. Even Edison’s Electric Company – today General Electric – switched to alternating current. The invention enabled long distance current transmission. All today’s motors in fans, air conditioning or refrigerators are based on Tesla’s principle who also set the current transmission frequency standards. The development continued by the construction of the first electric railway in England and the US (1883). In 1884 trolley cars came to towns and cities and in 1891 the first electric iron appeared.
