Carpenter 158 steel for reliable performance... something you want when youre dealing with 55,000 to 62,000 PSI mini explosions (5.56 NATO chamber pressure). If your bolt or your cartridge fails... well all that energy has to go somewhere. My 2 cents: Dont cheap out on vital, pressure bearing components. Seen a lot of crap bolts come through lately... bolt lugs shearing right off after just a few thousand rounds... or WORSE, deforming and resulting in excess case head space and consistent case head separations (when a cartridge case splits in half during firing/extracting)
