Nugget progress: building a positive association to tethering. Some background: because Nuggets adoption was through a friend of the BLM, they offered to do some training for us before she came home (for which I was very thankful because I didnt think I could do it). I got a call a few days before she was supposed to arrive with the report that her training wasnt as far along as theyd hoped and she was bucking and fighting being tethered. I saw this first hand the day after she arrived, when I had to tether her briefly while we brought the goats in. She was not a happy camper and it kind of freaked her out. I ditched the halter/lead rope she came with just in case she had any association. Xdog is also way far away so nothing will startle her/piss her off. This is the 2nd day and about the 4th rep of this exercise. Tethering lasts a short while and Im rewarding for figuring out how to make slack. Shes obviously pretty relaxed about the whole thing now, enough to scratch herself and explore the ground. Its routine enough that Levi can be there (I often have to train with him so that means non-risky sessions only).
