Numbers 15:37-41 God spoke to Moses: “Speak to the People of Israel. Tell them that from now on they are to make tassels on the corners of their garments and to mark each corner tassel with a blue thread. When you look at these tassels you’ll remember and keep all the commandments of God, and not get distracted by everything you feel or see that seduces you into infidelities. The tassels will signal remembrance and observance of all my commandments, to live a holy life to God. I am your God who rescued you from the land of Egypt to be your personal God. Yes, I am God, your God.” The Israelites were commanded to wear reminders on their clothes so that they wouldnt walk away from God and idolize whatever felt satisfying in the given moment. Im constantly reminded of how easy it is for me to walk off like this, and that I cant be holy on my own. Im comforted by the Gospel. The Word of God serves as a constant variable of truth, never getting old. He makes use of the difficult days, and the easy days in praiseworthy ways. My awareness of the ease at which I can lose focus keeps me in reality, and creates a new goal, not to be good, but to know the One who makes good, and uses the sin and evil in and around me to the extent that it turns and swallows itself, accomplishing His purposes and leaving me clean. Mannn! So cool that God is so committed to us, that He took it on Himself to take away our guilt, fear, shame and dead-end lifestyle by looking it in the face, and using death and opposition in a perfect way so that they canceled themselves out, leaving us alive, and standing clean next to a risen Jesus.
