Nun Tales #7 SISTER SIMONE CAMPBELL: NUN OF THE HOUR (In support of the crowd funding campaign for a new documentary called The Nuns on the Bus) Sister Simone Campbell is one hot nun. Despite the censure by the Pope Benedicts Vatican of the American Sisters for their activism a few years back, Sister Simone and her righteously rebellious posse of nuns hit the roads on a bus and decided to educate the nation in the ways we could be fiscally sound, plan for the future, and still help those of us who need assistance in this world. The media is focusing on her and rightly so. She is making history. Sister Simone has been on Stephen Colbert, twice, and the Daily Show, and she spoke at the Democratic National Convention. Sister and her busload of nuns came here to Columbus a couple summers ago to speak and it was my honor to help them find a place to stay (thank you Ohio Dominican Sisters!) and a place to speak (Thank you Unitarians) as our Bishop did not return their calls. Sister Simone spoke to a packed audience. She was at once intelligent, articulate, funny, energetic, and full of the Holy Spirit. She lives in Washington D.C. and runs the Network Lobby. Sister is an attorney. Each of the Sisters on the bus spoke of the work they do across the U.S. It reminded me that Sisters, from the time they first arrived from France in New Orleans in 1727 have helped build this nation. They started hospitals and schools basically from nothing. They have helped the poor and the marginalized. They made me who I am today. in the new report from Pope Francis Vatican, the Sisters, at long last, were lauded for their work that the report notes have had the Sisters undercompensated for their ministry. Pope Frankie (as I like to call him, affectionately) believes in the feminine genius and wants to bring more women leaders to the decision making process in the Church. (I tried to explain my own feminine genius to Capt Stevie and his report is not in yet.) See the video below for Sister Simones reaction to the Vatican report. Award winning filmmaker Melissa Regan is making a documentary about the nuns on the bus and you can help fund it and be part of bringing the story of Sister Simone and the Nuns on the Bus to the world. It is time for the women religious of the Catholic Church to be recognized for the powerful work they have done. Click her to see more: https://indiegogo/projects/nuns-on-the-bus-the-movie--2
