Nuptials in Pangsha (unexpurgated) Day-1 To collect Ontura We - TopicsExpress

Nuptials in Pangsha (unexpurgated) Day-1 To collect Ontura We were making good time - only 2 hours late. “We” were 200 friends and relatives of Khairul, assembled for a raiding party to Kushtia, the home town of Ontura, his bride-to-be. The mission was to rescue and bring the damsel to Khairul’s in Pangsha. Thereto to engage in nuptial rituals……. At midday, prompt as requested, I was ready to go. At one o’clock, we were still “organising,” and at one thirty we moved off. Oh, btw, Khairul was dressed in a somewhat fetching white tunic with sparkly bits, and to complete the ensemble, a turban and pointed slippers in which the pointy bits were turned up. I’m not sure if it’ll be a success in Portishead on a cold and snowy, windy January day, but he looked stunning. The Raj of Bristol. (ps – don’t wear it to work during a UKAS audit, Khairul………) This was always going to be a difficult and dangerous mission, but made all the more so by the Bangladesh party of religious idiots (ooops, sorry, zealots!) calling a “hartal” on this day. A hartal is a national strike, during which you’re not allowed to work, enjoy yourself, smile or drink whiskey. In short it’s a death sentence. Happily not many people wholeheartedly support everything I’ve mentioned, but some do, and in Dhaka there have been fatalities. Consequently we were escorted by a police patrol as far as their jurisdiction allowed, and at all intersections there was a semi-military presence. We made it to Kushtia. Just before entering the premises we stopped, regrouped, discussed tactics and considered strategies. It seemed that an all-out frontal assault was called for; accordingly ten minutes later we were sweeping in to the complex in which Ontura was held. [Don’t miss the next thrilling bit…….. (stay calm, don’t hold your breath…)]
