Nurit Peled-Elhanan is an Israeli professor of language and education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a human rights activist. She is a member of one of the founding families of Israel, daughter of the late Israeli military general turned peace activist, Matti Peled, and sister of Miko Peled, also a noted writer and peace activist. In 1997 Elhanans daughter, Smadar, was killed at the age of thirteen in a suicide attack in Jerusalem. She has devoted her life on speaking out against the occupation, apartheid and ethnic cleansing being perpetrated by the Israeli government in the name of the Jewish people. This is a powerful speech she gave in 2009. Sadly, little has changed from then as the slow genocide continues.
