Nuverra Environmental Solutions, Inc. (“Nuverra”), formerly Power Fuels, opened an oil industry waste site west of Watford City today. The disposal site, named the Nuverra Environmental Treatment Center, is permitted by the State of North Dakota to accept solid waste from oil exploration and production activities. Waste currently accepted at the site includes drill cuttings and other solids. Each load will be screened to prevent the introduction of radioactive elements into the facility. “Given the strong oil activity in western North Dakota, there is increasing demand for an environmentally sound landfill for waste created during the oil drilling process,” said David Johnson, director of Nuverra Total Environmental Management Solutions. “The Nuverra Environmental Treatment Center was designed and constructed to adhere to the latest standards for the safe handling of solid waste generated by the drilling and completion of oil wells. As the oil industry’s needs increase and change in the Bakken, we plan to implement additional waste and recycling services that support environmental sustainability.” Situated five miles west of Watford City and one mile south of Highway 85, the Nuverra Environmental Treatment Center is located in the heart of the Bakken oil field. Operations at the site will run from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., 7 days a week. The Nuverra Environmental Treatment Center, combined with the logistics expertise provided by the Watford City-based business formerly known as Power Fuels, will be a one-stop shop for oil industry clients in western North Dakota. “Our talented staff will coordinate clients’ solid waste disposal needs, ranging from collecting accepted waste material at drill sites to transporting and disposing of waste material. This benefits our clients by saving them both time and money,” Mr. Johnson concluded. Aside from the Environmental Treatment Center near Watford City, Nuverra serves the Bakken with six offices in Beach, Dickinson, Minot, Stanley, Tioga and Williston. It also has multiple salt water disposal well sites in western North Dakota and eastern Montana, and additional facilities for rapid distribution of trucks and equipment.
