O-o-o-kay...this man is a Reagan appointee and has been serving on the SCOTUS since 1986, since he was 50 years old. Thats 27 or 28 years, longer than any current Justice. Hes now 77 years old. Hes a committed Roman Catholic, as appears by this latest bit of nonsense. He told people that government may favor religion over non-religion. That means, for instance, that he believes the town of Greece, New York, may open its legislative session with prayers. Secular ones, but prayers nevertheless. Is there an atheist in the audience who would rather not have prayers in government functions? Too bad. The First Amendment says, in pertinent part, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof... Well, okay, Mr. Scalias opinion may be justifiable by the plain text of the Amendment, but it certainly runs counter to any discussion of the Amendment that Ive ever heard. And now hes comparing himself to Frodo Baggins. All in all, maybe he should retire. it certainly sounds like he needs a nice lo-o-o-ong rest.
