OBITUARY: Duane O. Popp, 67, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Rev. Dr. Karen Young will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Cremation will follow the service with burial at a later date in the Dayton Cemetery. Duane Otto Popp was born on November 17, 1945, in Hartley, Iowa, the son of Otto and Catherine (Pettit) Popp. He was a graduate of the Greenville Rossi High School. On May 7, 1966, Duane was united in marriage to Fran Deman in Peterson, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Shawn, Duane, and Cheryl. Duane worked at I.B.P. in Fort Dodge from 1966 until 1988. In 1989, he became employed by West Central Cooperative as a Supervisor until retiring in 2003. Duane was an avid cyclone fan, enjoyed fishing and gardening, and in earlier years raising pigs. Among the survivors are his wife, Fran Popp of Dayton, Iowa; two sons, Shawn (Ann) Popp of Adel, Iowa, and Duane (Lynne) Popp of Clare, Iowa, one daughter, Cheryl (Scott) Zimmerman of Parker, Colorado; six grandchildren, Devon, Seanie, Dakota, Montanna, Zachary, and Ryan; two brothers, Darryl Popp of Gowrie, Iowa, and James Valentine of Manson, Iowa; two sisters, Shirley Weimer of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Gerry (Barry) Fisher of Paton, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. His parents Otto and Catherine (Pettit) Popp , and his stepfather, Roy Neilsen, preceded him in death. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
